How are my items stored in the warehouse?
Each item is assigned a fixed location linked to its barcode. Variants are stored separately, and the layout is based on your order profile, weight, and turnover rate.
Each item is assigned a fixed location in the warehouse, linked to its own barcode. That combination is at the heart of the entire operation: when you know where something is and can verify that you’re picking the right item, you make few mistakes and work quickly.
Location and article go together
Upon receipt, an item is scanned and linked to a location. During picking, the system guides the employee to that location, where the item is scanned again. If someone picks the wrong item, the scan will not match, and the item will not be placed in the box.

The biggest source of errors is variations: the same packaging in a different color, size, or quantity. That’s why they’re stored in separate locations rather than side by side in a single bin. This takes up a little more space but results in far fewer mix-ups.
This is also why each variant needs its own item number and its own barcode. Two variants with the same number cannot be distinguished from one another in the warehouse.
New Articles
A new item is only assigned a location once it has been registered and has its own barcode. Therefore, register new items before the shipment is on its way, not once the pallet is already on the dock. That way, space can be planned for them instead of having to improvise.
The layout is based on your order profile
Items that sell well or are frequently ordered together are placed near the customer walkway. For an assortment with many SKUs in a limited space, this layout determines, in practice, how many orders are shipped per hour.
If your product lineup or inventory turnover rate changes, the layout can be adjusted accordingly. It’s not a one-time setup.
Volume and Weight
Large or heavy items require different storage locations than small ones. For example, if you sell pet food in bags, the warehouse is organized by weight and size so that orders can be picked efficiently without unnecessary lifting.
Peaks and Seasonality
If part of your product line is selling much faster than usual during a certain period, please let us know. Items that are flying off the shelves in December can be temporarily moved closer to the packing area, so that the processing time per order doesn't increase just when things are busy.
How much space you get
Storage space scales with your business as long as it remains proportional to the number of shipments you send. There is no per-pallet fee and no minimum number of locations. If you’re making a large purchase that you’ll be selling off over a long period of time, please discuss this with us in advance.
